Jamaican Faces Murder Charge in Trinidad: A 25-year-old Jamaican has been charged with the murder of Trinidadian businessman Sterling Francois, whose body was found at his home in Arima, Trinidad and Tobago, last month.
Deandre Markland appeared before the Criminal Court on Monday, where the matter was adjourned until October 30 for a status hearing.
Police said Francois’ bloodied body was discovered on June 20 after a relative went to check on him when repeated phone calls went unanswered.
Investigators allege that the businessman returned home on the night of June 19 with a male companion, who was later seen leaving the house carrying a knapsack.
Police reported that several items, including Francois’ cellphone, laptop and wallet, were missing.
Markland was arrested on June 26 as part of the homicide investigation and was formally charged on July 4 following legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions.
