Law enforcement authorities have intercepted a major shipment of cocaine at Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay, St. James, resulting in the seizure of approximately 108 pounds of the illegal substance.
The operation was carried out on Monday evening around 7:00 p.m., during routine security activities at the airport. The drugs were uncovered during a targeted search conducted by police personnel.
Following the discovery, a man identified as a farmer from St. Elizabeth was taken into custody in connection with the seizure. His identity has not been released as investigations continue.
The matter is now under active investigation by the Firearms and Narcotics Investigation Division (FNID), which is working to determine the full circumstances surrounding the attempted movement of the narcotics.
Authorities have reaffirmed their commitment to disrupting drug trafficking operations and strengthening security at the island’s ports of entry.
