St. Thomas, Jamaica – Detectives from the St. Thomas Criminal Investigations Branch have officially charged 49-year-old Cecil Stewart, also known as ‘Grabba,’ with the murder of 28-year-old Roshni Bonfield, otherwise called ‘Danesha.’ Both individuals were residents of Golden Valley, Whitehall, St. Thomas.
Bonfield, a Customer Service Representative, was last seen alive on Sunday, January 26, at approximately 3:30 p.m. when she left her home to visit a neighboring community. Concerns arose later that day when a resident discovered her handbag and cellular phone abandoned along a roadway near her residence, prompting a missing person report.
The search for Bonfield intensified on Thursday, January 27, when community members banded together to scour the area. Their efforts led to the grim discovery of Bonfield’s body in a gully, confirming residents’ worst fears.
Following the discovery, detectives ramped up their investigations, and on Friday, January 28, Stewart surrendered himself to authorities in the company of his attorney. During questioning, he reportedly confessed to the crime. Subsequently, on Thursday, January 30, he was formally charged with murder.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Maxine Bernard, Crime Officer for St. Thomas, acknowledged the strong collaboration between law enforcement and the community, which led to Stewart’s swift arrest and charge.
“This swift breakthrough was made possible through the hard work and diligence of our investigating officers and the concerned residents of Golden Valley,” DSP Bernard stated. “The St. Thomas Police remain committed to ensuring justice for Roshni Bonfield and her loved ones. We encourage anyone with additional information to come forward as we pursue justice for Roshni.”
Authorities are currently finalizing Stewart’s court date as investigations into the case continue.
