St Mary, Jamaica — A young police constable has been charged with the murder of his 20-year-old girlfriend following a deadly domestic dispute in Richmond, St Mary last month.
Constable Patrick Walters, 22, was charged on Monday, July 21, with murder and using a firearm to commit a felony, after an investigation and ruling by the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
According to reports, around 9:15 p.m. on June 25, Walters and his girlfriend, D’Jonnay Graham, became involved in an argument at her home in Richmond, which escalated into violence. During the dispute, Graham was shot.
Police were summoned and upon arrival, found both Walters and Graham suffering from gunshot wounds. Both were rushed to hospital, where Graham was pronounced dead, and Walters was admitted for treatment.
Following his release from hospital, Walters was taken into custody and later formally charged.
The matter has also been reported to the Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) and the Inspectorate and Professional Standards Oversight Bureau (IPROB) for further review.
