JCF Gets 70 New and Pre-Owned Vehicles

St Andrew, Jamaica (McKoy’s News) – JCF Gets 70 New and Pre-Owned Vehicles: The Ministry of National Security has handed over 70 new and pre-owned motor vehicles to the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF).

The presentation was made on December 19 at the Office of the Police Commissioner on Old Hope Road in St. Andrew.

Valued at $242 million, the vehicles form part of a batch of 119 units to be handed over to the JCF. The money was secured from proceeds of the first phase of the recent traffic ticket amnesty.

“One supplier, who had difficulty clearing some of the units from the bond store, should deliver later this afternoon or early in the morning,” Mr. Montague said.

He further informed that an additional 30 vehicles should be delivered to the JCF by Friday (December 22).

The Minister pointed out that since the start of the year, a total of 401 vehicles have been handed over to the police.

“The talk about a lack of mobility will come to an end, because we have been very deliberate and very clear in how we proceed to get mobility to the police force, and the 401 vehicles do not include 66 units that are on the wharf,” he said.

He noted that a number of motorcycles will also be handed over to the Traffic Unit of the JCF and the Praedial Larceny Unit shortly.

“Each police division will get two, to assist with traffic management; Montego Bay will get three; and the rest will remain in the Corporate Area. The Ministry has also placed an order for some 90 trail bikes to be handed over to the praedial larceny unit,” Mr. Montague said.

For his part, Commissioner of Police, George Quallo, thanked the Government for the vehicles, adding that they will improve the mobility of the JCF members, especially during the Christmas period.

He called on members of the force to use the vehicles with care. “It is public money that was used to give us these vehicles. We have a responsibility to ensure that they are used for (their) intended purpose, that they are cared for, and to offer quality service to the people of this country,” the Commissioner said.
