BASSETERRE, St Kitts — A Jamaican man living in Nevis has been sentenced to six years in prison after a firearm and ammunition were found at his home.
Jamar Woodstock pleaded guilty to possession of a firearm and ammunition following a police search of his residence on February 4, 2025. Officers also found small quantities of marijuana and more than EC$2,300 in cash, with additional marijuana discovered in his vehicle.
A firearm and a matching round of ammunition were found concealed on a kitchen counter. Although Woodstock claimed the weapon was not working, tests later confirmed it was functional.
His attorney argued the gun may have been left behind from a 2021 film production and said Woodstock had tried to contact the company. The court also heard that he had no prior convictions and cooperated with authorities.
However, prosecutors rejected the explanation, noting that firearms used in the production were non-functional.
The judge ruled there was no evidence linking the weapon to the film and stressed the seriousness of keeping a working firearm and ammunition at home. While noting Woodstock’s clean record and community support, the court imposed a reduced sentence of six years.
Time already spent in custody will count, and he may qualify for early release based on good behaviour.
