St Mary, Jamaica: The usually tranquil community of Albion Mountain in St Mary has been placed under a curfew following a recent upsurge in crime and gang-related activity. The curfew, which began on Tuesday, January 7, will remain in effect until Thursday, January 9, as law enforcement seeks to restore order.
Police report one case of arson, the recovery of a 9mm Ruger pistol in December, and an unreported shooting incident, along with other gang-related activities.
The curfew covers areas including:
- A section of Top Mountain near Albion Mountain Square
- Trinity Land main road
- Cox Street main road
- Roslyn Road
Residents are required to remain indoors during curfew hours, which run daily from 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.
Acting Superintendent of Police for St Mary, Anthony Wallace, urged residents to comply with the instructions of law enforcement officers patrolling the area, emphasizing that the operation would be conducted with respect for human rights.
The curfew follows concerns over rising tensions in the community, which has seen incidents of violence linked to gang activity. The authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward as they intensify efforts to bring the situation under control.
