I didn’t think I’d ever be in a situation like this, but life doesn’t always go the way you expect.
A few months ago, my girlfriend and I were in a steady, committed relationship. We’d been together for over two years, shared a lot of experiences, and things felt solid.
Then I started to notice she wasn’t quite herself—distracted, distant, and avoiding eye contact. After a few days, she finally told me she was pregnant. It was a lot to take in—part excitement, part confusion, part panic.
But then she told me something I didn’t see coming. It turns out the pregnancy wasn’t from me. She explained that during a night out with friends, she had too much to drink, and something happened between her and a close friend of hers. It was a one-time thing, but it changed everything.
I was shocked. It was a lot to process. She was upset, apologetic, and said she never meant for it to happen. When I approached the friend, he barely said anything—just kind of shut down.
The days after were tough. I was trying to figure out where I stood and how I felt. I still cared about my girlfriend, but the trust between us had obviously taken a hit.
In the end, we decided to try working through it. We started counseling, talked openly, and tried to figure out a path forward. It hasn’t been smooth, and I know rebuilding trust takes time, but we’re trying.
This whole thing taught me a lot—mostly that relationships aren’t always simple. Mistakes happen, and how you deal with them really shows what you’re made of. I don’t know exactly what the future holds, but I’m taking it one step at a time.
