KINGSTON — Police have launched an investigation into the fatal shooting of a businessman who was killed in Denham Town, Kingston, on Christmas Day.
The deceased has been identified as 41-year-old Ricardo Ellis, otherwise known as ‘Boyah’ or ‘Bozza’, of North Street, Kingston 14.
Reports indicate that at about 8:00 a.m., Ellis was standing in front of his business at the corner of Wellington and Nelson Streets when he was approached by two men travelling on a motorcycle. The assailants, who were armed with firearms, opened fire, hitting him multiple times in the upper body.
The gunmen reportedly fled the area immediately after the attack. Ellis was rushed to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The Kingston West Police Division has since noted a 43 per cent reduction in murders, recording 32 murders up to December 20, compared with 56 during the corresponding period last year.
Nationally, police statistics show that Jamaica recorded 649 murders up to December 20, also reflecting a 43 per cent decrease when compared with the same period last year.
Investigations into the killing are ongoing.
