Louis Tomlinson, dare we say it, is actually becoming quite likable on The X Factor.
Tonight’s instalment of the ITV talent show will see all sorts of heart melting moments from the One Direction star, particularly as he meets Simon Cowell’s toddler Eric for the first time, but only after he consoles Jamaican contestant Dalton Andre Harris.
Dalton flew all the way from his native Caribbean country and was almost crippled with nerves before singing Sorry Seems To Be The Hardest World.
The 24-yaear-old revealed he lived in a house with his single mother and sisters, and was ‘very poor’.
‘We had one room we sectioned into different parts,’ he told the judges. ‘We never had electricity or running water.’
Explaining his decision to sing the Sir Elton John ballad, Dalton told Simon: ‘If a lot of people that I’ve come across said sorry, a lot less people could be left with a lot of pain.’
But once his audition was done, it became clear the number’s underlying message ran deep.
‘Sorry if I’m being intrusive,’ asked Simon. ‘But can I ask why you were being so emotional?’
Dalton began: ‘I’ve been on my own since I was 15. And I’ve accepted it. It’s not a sad story, it’s just… it’s been a lot, and it’s been a long time.’

Ayda immediately lept out of her seat and Louis soon followed to give Dalton the hug he’s clearly been so desperately missing.
‘I’m proud of you,’ Louis assured.
‘You watch this on TV and you think, “That’s not going to be me because I’m gangsta, right?”’ Dalton teased.
