World Champion Long Jumper Tajay Gayle to Run the 100m 2022

2019 IAAF World Champion long jumper Tajay Gayle, has confirmed that he will add the 100m to his schedule for the 2022 season.

Gayle made the announcement via social media on Monday, October 25.

“Well it’s official, I’ll be running 100m next season, sigh. I didn’t wanna do this to the sprinters but oh well, wish me luck,” Gayle posted on his Twitter account.

Gayle, 25, shocked the world in Doha, Qatar when he became the first Jamaican to win a gold medal at a global athletic event. His mark of 8.69m is the national long jump record,  has a personal best 10.18 seconds in the 100 metre, done in May this year at the national stadium.

Gayle had been hoping to add the Olympic title to his World title this summer. He advanced to the final in Tokyo but injured his left knee in the process.  As a result, he was unable to secure a position in the final eight. He has since fully recovered from the injury.
