Woman To Be Sentenced For Hiding Her Son Who Was Amongst The St. James Most Wanted

Jamaica News: A woman who was found guilty of harbouring a fugitive, after she was caught hiding her son who was placed on the St. James Most Wanted list, is awaiting to be sentenced.

Pansy Powell, who hails from Roehampton, St. James was scheduled to be sentenced in the St. James Parish Court on Monday, but when her case was called up before presiding judge Kaysha Grant, sentencing was postponed because the social enquiry report that was ordered by the court was not ready.

A new sentencing date was set for May 14, and Powell’s bail was extended.

Tangible Outcomes Expected from Diaspora Conference

Powell’s arrest came after a report was filed against her son Turay Gunn on August 19, 2016 in connection with a shooting incident. Consequently, his name was published in the Western Mirror as amongst the St. James Most Wanted on April 26, 2017.

On June 6, 2017, the police armed themselves with an arrest warrant and carried out an operation in search of Gunn and found him hiding at her home. She broke down in tears and told the police that she knew he was wanted but had to protect him.
