St James, Jamaica (McKoy’s News) – Woman Steals 28000 US Dollars from Her Employer: A St. Ann woman accused of stealing US$28,000 from her employer is yet to make restitution to the complainant.
Roberts, 27, of Browns Town, St. Ann, appeared in the St. James Parish Court on Thursday to face a charge of larceny as a servant.
An agreement was made for Roberts’ car to be transferred to the complainant as part of her restitution payment. However, on the previous mention date, it was disclosed to the court that the keys for the car, which is being kept at a police station in St. Ann, could not be located and that the lights were removed from the vehicle. The court then adjourned the matter for an agreement to be made in relation to the evaluation.
On Thursday, attorney-at-law Henry McCurdy, who is watching proceedings on behalf of the complainant, told the court that the agreement was been drafted by defence attorney Earnest Smith and was signed by the accused.
However, neither Smith nor the complainant was present in court on Thursday and the complainant has not yet signed the agreement.
The matter was subsequently set for mention on August 17 and Roberts’ bail was extended.
Roberts was reportedly employed by the complainant as an accountant and was responsible for the preparation of the daily bank lodgements.
The discrepancies came to light after the complainant observed that some of the lodgement slips did not bear a signature or the official bank stamp. Further checks were made and it was discovered that between February and September 2016, US$28,000 could not be accounted for.
