Jamaica Crime News, Westmoreland: Escaped Armed Robber – The Westmoreland police have released the name of a man, who they say is now a Person of interest in a robbery attempt in the parish on Tuesday, which resulted in his two cronies being shot and injured, and a police Constable also injured.
The name of the man have been given as Patrick Myles, laborer of a Clarendon address.
Reports are that on Tuesday morning, March 12, about 2:15 a.m., it is believed that Myles and the two other men armed with handguns, went to a bar in Hartford district, where they held up the operator and robbed him of cash and three slot machines.
While in the process of making their escape, Constable Gayle who is attached to the Area One Technical Services Division and who was off-duty at the time, was in the area when he got news of the robbery taking place.
He immediately drove to the location and chased all three robbers in his private vehicle. During the chase, the gunmen opened fire at the brave officer who returned the fire, during what time, two of the robbers were shot and injured.
The injured robber who was driving the vehicle lost control and the car crashed into a wall. Constable Gayle who was traveling close behind the gunmen also lost control of the vehicle, which also crashed.
One of the gunmen jumped from the car and escape in bushes, while residents in community rushed to the assistance of the injured officers and held on to both injured robbers.
Other officers were called to the scene and upon their arrival, Constable Gayle who suffered a broken foot, and the two injured robbers were rushed to the Savanna-la-mar hospital, where he was treated and admitted and the gunmen also admitted under police guard.
