Jamaica Crime News, Westmoreland: The Bethel Town Police in the parish of Westmoreland say they have now made a breakthrough, into the identity of the man who was shot and killed by gunmen in the community on Saturday morning,May 19. The other man who was shot and injured during the incident still remains at hospital in serious condition.
He has been identified as Oshando Smith otherwise known as “Shando” formally of Flankers community in St James but now resides at Marl Road in Bethel Town.
The police say both men who are now vegetable farmers are affiliated with a popular gang which operated out of Bethel Town area.
It is reported that about 12:00 noon on Saturday, Smith and the other man who were selling vegetable in the Bethel Town area received a telephone call that some customer wanted to purchase vegetables at a section of the area known as Smoke Hole.
The men walked to the area, however, while in the process of passing a shop they were ambushed by a lone gunman who opened fire hitting them both to their upper bodies. The gunman escaped in the area on foot.
The police were summoned and upon arrival, the wounded men were transported to the Savanna-la-mar hospital where Smith was pronounced dead and the other man admitted in serious condition.
