Latest Jamaica News, Westmoreland (McKoy’s News): Westmoreland Man Perishes in Crash – A Westmoreland man lost his life in a motor vehicle accident along a section of Sheffield main road, in the parish on Saturday, August 24.
He has been identified as 52-year-old Collin Smith, of a Namprel Road address also in Westmoreland.
Reports by the police are that about 12:00 midday on Saturday, Smith was driving a white Toyota Corolla station wagon motor car, registered 8069HM, along the Bowen main road.
On reaching a section of the roadway, the driver of a Canter motor truck, who has been identified as Floyd Payne, of a Mandeville address in Manchester, reportedly lost control of the truck, which ran across the roadway and collided with the car being driven by Smith.

The truck then ran over the entire top section of the motor car, before it overturned blocking a section of the roadway.
The impact of the crash resulted in Smith’s vehicle being ripped to shreds, and he was killed instantly. He was pronounced dead at the Savanna-la-mar hospital.
The driver of the truck also sustained injuries, and he was also taken to hospital where he was treated, and later warned for prosecution.
A few days prior to this latest accident, 10-year-old Jotwain Johnson, a student who attended Unity Primary School, and resided at Barracks Road in Westmoreland, died at hospital from injuries he received after being run over by a motor vehicle, while he was crossing a section of Dunbar River main road.
The police reported that Jotwain was in the process of crossing a section of the Dunbar River stoplight intersection, when he was mowed down by a motor vehicle being driven by David Pringle, a security guard of a Cave District address.
The child sustained injuries and was rushed to hospital, where he succumbed to injuries a day later.
Since the start of the year, the parish of Westmoreland has seen an increase in road fatalities, with 30 persons losing their lives in 29 road accidents, compared to 26 persons killed in 21 accidents at this same period last year.
A total of 85 persons died in 77 road accidents throughout western Jamaica.
