Kingston, Jamaica (Mckoy’s News)West Kingston 2010 Operation: the Jamaica Ministry of Justice is now issuing long-awaited compensation cheques to persons who suffered damage of property and lost loved ones in the May 2010 security forces operation, in West Kingston.

Ms Carol Palmer, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Justice, acknowledged that the government is in contact with 261 of the 418 persons who the West Kingston Compensation Committee indicated should receive money for their loss.

Cheques were reportedly lodged to the bank, credit union and building society accounts of recipients.

According to Ms Palmer, the Justice Ministry has also paid out $134 million to the Administrator General’s Department which is mandated to deal with the estates of persons who have died.

The Ministry of Justice is appealing for those who have not yet submitted their information for compensation to do so, at the Restorative Justice centres in Denham Town and Tivoli Gardens.
