Well-Known Sports Administrator Freddie Green is Dead

Veteran sports administrator Winford Fitz-Herbert Green, known to all as Freddie Green died on Sunday, April 12, 2020, after a lengthy illness.

The 88 years old was known particularly for his distinguished service to the Inter-Secondary Schools Sports Association (ISSA), Sports Director at Mico College from 1960-1967 Green also did sterling work at The University of the West Indies from 1972-1992 and in volleyball.

Green was a standout athlete at Kingston College (KC) where he represented the school in Track and Field, Football and Cricket. KC were champions of all three sports from 1949-1950 due to his contribution.

He also had two head coaching roles with the manning cup Football team at KC leading them to victories in 1951-1952. Green also represented Jamaica in Volleyball from 1958 – 1966. He was captain and coach from 1959 -1962.

Green was awarded the order of distinction (OD) by the Government of Jamaica in 2003.
