Jamaica News, Montego Bay: Several footballers and former footballers from all walks of life turned out on Saturday, July 28, at the Emmanuel Chapel located on Vernon’s Drive in Montego Bay to bid farewell to a real football stalwart who had brought joy and pride to many with his skills.

A memorial service was held for Vinton Williams, a famous son of the city, who scored many goals in the early 80’s, for the Cornwall College Dacosta Cup football team.

After leaving Cornwall College, Vinton went on to represent Violet Kickers in the National Premier League football competition. Although Violet Kickers football standard deteriorated, Vinton single-handedly kept the Violet Kickers flags flying in the St James football competition.

The Jamaica music fraternity was plunged into mourning after the passing of “Carrot” formerly of world renowned group Third World.

He was also a member of the Violet Tourers Masters Team. His body was interred at the Dovecot Memorial Gardens.
