Jamaica News: In the midst of the downward spiral of the nation in virtually every facet, we are graced with the news that Miss Kitty, Khadyne Hylton, of Magnum Kings and Queens fame, is now in pursuit of a Law Degree. Now, before you get your various garments in a bunch and fly off on your misunderstandings, the legal profession has been facing decline, controversy and any amount of shenanigans by many of its practitioners to bring the profession into genuine disrepute, from time immemorial. However, it is still regarded as a ‘noble’ profession where, those who can afford to, push their children as a career path that will take them the top as long as they are not tempted to hold on to people’s money for too long.
It is not a profession that invites certain kind’ of behavior from its practitioners and holds its August head way up in a kind of haughtiness meant for the proud. Even when the children of the poor earn their way and matriculate to wearing the title on their puffed out chests, it is regarded as high accomplishment.
It is not a profession that welcomes bhuttos and bhutto behavior. No matter how you twist and turn, or spin it, it is what it is though the hypocrites and pretenders may either choose to get what I am saying, or not…. That will be their struggles.
Since the announcement, I haven’t recovered fully from the surprise; and despite my own congratulations to her, I am unable to stifle the occasional smile or smirk that find its way to my lips, because such as personality as Miss Kitty is not one that one would readily identify with the profession.
As a denizen of the Dancehall circles given to vulgar behavior -no matter how nicely dressed up- the feline character exposes too much and is too raucous to be welcomed with open arms by many members of the General legal counsel, who will regard that the body of the profession has been scratched.
Her ascent to Legal-dom will not be viewed as the ‘Road to Damascus’ experience of the erstwhile Lady Saw, born again and put out as the now Marion Hall, (her real name), who has abandoned the Dancehall where she reigned as Supreme Queen.
Miss Kitty has gone through no such conversion to be welcomed in the hallowed halls of Legal-dom, though it is teeming with rats preventing it from being able to hold its head too far above the clouds.
As the main host of Magnum Kings and Queens of Dancehall, her dress and mannerisms are enough to make even the most liberal and fervent night crawler, blush. She is the consummate vulgarian. Even her signature La-la-la-la rallying cry is enough to cause discomfort save to those so allowing that they give it a pass, and others sunk below acceptable levels of behavior.
Much can be said against upper-crust snootiness, which is another extreme, but kudos to balance and all that emanates from decency as this is what society needs for law, order and proper development. Jamaica, more than most, needs this as the antidote for the poison that has seeped into our environment as a result of the laissez-faire approach of our governments.
Be that as it may though, it will be of some interest to see what kind of lawyer she eventually makes….. La-la-la-la-la-laah!
