The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) department of Intercollegiate Athletics announced on Monday, November 23, 2020 that sophomore Ackeem Gordon, was named Student-Athlete of the Week.
The Former Cornwall College sprinter Gordon was named, despite the absence of sporting events at the university due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Gordon made his presence felt in his freshman season as he earned All-WAC First Team honors for helping his 4×400-meter relay team win the WAC Indoor Championship and earned All-WAC Second Team honors after finishing sixth in the 60-meter dash with a time of 6.91 seconds, which is the second-fastest in program history.
Gordon added a fifth-place finish in the 60-meter dash at the Howie Ryan Invitational with a time of 6.93 seconds. Gordon made his collegiate debut at the Ted Nelson Invitational where he recorded the program’s eighth fastest time in the 60-meter dash with a time of 6.96 seconds.
Off the track, Gordon was named to the Spring AD Honor Roll and was named the UTRGV Male Rookie of the Year.
