Jamaica Crime News, Kingston: Our news team learnt that two students who attend separate High schools in Downtown Kingston,  had to be transported to hospital and treated for smoke inhalation,  after they got infected by the thick blanket of smoke from a fire which destroyed sections of a two-storey building and two houses on Thursday morning, September 13.

The fire of unknown origin gutted through the two-storey building located in the vicinity of Duke Street and Sutton Street, and also destroyed two houses which were part of a tenement settlement.

The police say the fire was detected by residents about 8:00 a.m. and they summoned the police and Fire Department.

The fire which lasted over five hours completely destroyed sections of the building and left a thick blanket of smoke which forced the authorities to evacuate students from two neighbouring schools.

During the evacuation process,  it was discovered that the two students were affected by the smoke.  They were rushed to hospital where they were treated immediately.

The firefighters say they are unable to give an estimate in damages at this time.
