Two Passengers Injured as JUTC Bus Catches Fire in Kingston

Jamaica News, Kingston: A male and a female passenger who were travelling on a JUTC bus which burst into flames in Kingston on Wednesday night, were both transported to the Spanish Town Hospital where they were treated and admitted in stable condition.

Reports by the Kingston police are that shortly after 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday night, a packed JUTC bus was travelling from the directions of Half Way Tree to Spanish Town.

On reaching a section of Central Village in the vicinity of Red Cross Complex, smoke was seen coming from the engine section of the bus and the driver stopped abruptly.

The driver reportedly reached for the fire extinguisher and ordered the passengers off the bus. A blanket of smoke filled the bus and it resulted in a stampede, during what time, the male and female passengers received injuries to their lower bodies.

The driver then managed to put out the blaze, followed by which, the wounded passengers were rushed to hospital.  Our news team also learned that,  a team from the Jamaica Urban Transport Corporation and the police are now carrying out investigations to determine the cause of the fire.
