Two Motorcyclists Held with Illegal Firearm in Westmoreland

Jamaica Crime News, Westmoreland: Two men are now in custody following the seizure of an illegal firearm and several rounds of ammunition in the parish of Westmoreland on Thursday night.

The Westmoreland police say they cannot release the names of both accused at this time.

Reports are that about 8:20 p.m., a team of officers were carrying out vehicular spot checks along a section of the Amity main road when they saw both accused travelling on a motorcycle.

The lawmen signalled the men to stop but they sped away on the motorbike.  The police gave chase and the men were apprehended at a section of the roadway.

A search of their person led to the seizure of an HS 9mm semi-automatic pistol loaded with eight live 9mm rounds.  Both men were taken into custody and are awaiting to be charged.
