Two Men Fatally Shot, After Holding up Off-Duty Police


Two men who held up, and attempted to rob an off duty policeman in Zadie Gardens, St Andrew on Saturday afternoon, July 13, was fatally shot and an illegal firearm taken from them.

The police have reported that so far only one of the gunmen has been identified, he is 22-year-old George Thompson, labourer of Pamela Avenue, Kingston 20.

Thompson who was also before the court on charges of illegal possession of firearm and ammunition had reported on the condition of bail at the Constant Spring police station on charges of illegal possession of firearm and ammunition, earlier that afternoon, about 2:20 p.m.

Reports are that about 6:00 p.m. the officer was at an establishment along Zadie Gardens when Thompson and another man rode up on a motorcycle and held him at gunpoint.

The men proceeded to rob the officer, and were in the process of riding away from the scene when they were challenged by the policeman.

A gun battle ensued, and the officer called for the assistance of one of his colleagues. Both off duty cops cornered the armed robbers, killing them on the spot.

A Taurus 9mm pistol, with a magazine containing three live 9mm rounds were taken from the dead men.
