Jamaica Crime News, St James: Two Jamaica Defence Force soldiers were shot and injured by a group of gunmen who engaged them in a heated gun battle in Richmond Hill, Cambridge, St James on Thursday morning, September 27.
The police reported that about 10:15 a.m., a joint military team went to the community in search of Delano Wilmot, otherwise called “Preckey” and his gang of henchmen.
On reaching the community, the military team came under heavy gunfire from Wilmot and his men, who were armed with high-powered weapons.
The fire was returned and during the shooting, two members of the JDF received gunshot wounds.
The wounded soldiers were immediately transported to hospital where they were treated and placed under observation.
Our news team learned that their conditions are not considered to be life-threatening.
Wilmot was a member of the Ryan “Ratty” Peterkin gangs and since the fatal shooting of Ratty several months ago, he revived the gang and taken over the helm.
Wilmot is being sought in connection with several murders, shootings and armed robberies which have been committed in the Retrieve, Cambridge and Catadupa areas.
The military is now maintaining a strong presence in the area.
