Jamaica Crime News, Kingston: The Half Way Tree Police say they have now laid criminal charges against a Trinidadian national and a 19-year-old, teenager, in connection with the murder of 13-year-old Shanoya Wray, whose skeletal remains were found along Whalley Close in Kingston 6 on Friday morning of July 20th.
Saju Maharaj who is a Trinidadian national has since been charged with murder, while 19-year-old Leonardo Madden of a Kingston address, has been charged with Accessory to murder. 13-year-old Shanoya Wray went missing from her home in Kingston on July 15th and an Ananda Alert was sent out in search of her.
Reports were made to the police and following a series of investigations, the investigators were informed that Shanoya was seen in the company of the accused and this resulted in the two suspects being picked up.
About 8:00 a.m. on Friday, July 20, residents in Whalley Close stumbled upon the human remains of a female and alerted the police.
Upon arrival of the lawmen, the scene was processed and the remains sent off to the lab for DNA testing. The result of the test later confirmed that the skeletal remains were, in fact, those of the missing 13-year-old.
The two accused were questioned in the company of their lawyers on the weekend and then slapped with charges.
They are both booked to appear in the Half Way Tree Criminal Court on Friday, August 17.
