The Trelawny police are asking farmers in the parish to be on the lookout for a group of men, who are travelling the parish impersonating yam farmers while robbing other farmers of large amount of cash.
The most recent incident took place on the weekend where cash amounting to over $700,000 were robbed from an elderly farmer and his son at Green Valley district.
Reports are that about 1:30pm, on Saturday, the 66-year-old yam farmer who hails from Troy district, and his 37-year-old son, received a unanimous phone call, from a man who identified himself as a farmer, and informed them that he had over a thousand pounds of yellow yam for sale.
The farmer and his son immediately made arrangements with the unknown caller to pick up 800 pounds of yam, at Green Valley district, which is also located in South Trelawny.
They later drove to a section of Green Valley known as Green Town,where they were directed by the man on the phone to stop at a heap of yam, which were packed outside a premises.
As the farmer and his son alighted from the vehicle expecting to carry out the transactions, they were ambushed by three mask men armed with handguns,who held them at gunpoint and robbed them of cash amounting to $700,000 ,along with a Samsung Galaxy cell phone, a knife and their machetes.
The armed robbers then made their escape in the area with the cash and other stolen items.
