Three Dead, Six Injured at Football Match in St Catherine

Three people are dead and at least six others injured, after gunmen opened fire on spectators during a football match at Spring Village in St. Catherine on Sunday afternoon.

The drive-by, which was carried out by men driving a white Toyota Mark X and a Nissan Tiida, was described by deputy commissioner of police Fitz Bailey as an act of terror.

One man reportedly got out of the Toyota Mark X during the football match and started shooting at the spectators, some of whom were Jamaica Broilers employees.

According to reports, after shooting his intended target, identified as Jerome Squire, who was reportedly linked to an illegal handgun that had gone missing, the gunman continued to fire at the gathering.

It is also believed that a licensed firearm holder present at the match challenged the gunman, who escaped.
