Kingston, Jamaica (Mckoy’s News) – Test Results Show no Cholera in Jamaica: The Caribbean Public Health Agency, CARPHA has confirmed that samples sent to them of a patient who presented symptoms of a water-borne bacteria have returned negative for cholera.
The provisional results were received and released by the Ministry of Health this afternoon.
Chief Medical Officer in the Ministry of Health Dr Winston De La Haye says based on the findings so far, they have ruled out the vibrio cholera type 01; also type 0139.
These are the two types responsible for cholera which is that watery, severe diarrhea, vomiting, severe dehydration.
CARPHA said it will repeat the tests and a formal report will be sent to the Ministry next week.
He says the Ministry can breathe a sigh of relief with the recent finding.
