St James, Jamaica (McKoy’s News) – Taxi Operator Murdered in Mount Salem: The Mount Salem police in the parish of St James are now in search of two men in connection with the shooting death of a taxi operator along the Mount Salem main road in Montego Bay on Friday night.
The taxi operator murdered has been identified as 34-yr-old Roger Thorpe of Hampton District also in the parish.
Reports by the Freeport police are that about 11:45 p.m. on Friday July 28, 2017, Thorpe, who operates his Grey 110 Toyota Corolla motor car as a robot taxi from Mount Salem to downtown Montego Bay, had just picked up two passengers and headed for Mount Salem.
On reaching a section of the Mount Salem main road, one of the passengers asked for a stop and the driver complied.
The passenger was in the process of paying his fare when another man, armed with a gun, stepped out from the shadows and fired several shots at the driver, hitting him to the upper part of his body. Both men then escaped on foot in the area.
The police were summoned, and on arrival Thorpe, who was discovered slumped around the steering wheel, was transported to the Cornwall Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
No information has been forthcoming about the second passenger who was in the vehicle.
The Mount Salem police are conducting further investigations into this murder.
