St Mary: Port Maria Accident Claims 9-year-old Life, Police Investigating 

Jamaica News, February 28, 2018 – Port Maria Accident Claims 9-year-old Life 

St Mary, Jamaica (McKoy’s News) – The St Mary police say they have now launched a full investigation into a traffic accident which claimed the life of a 9-year-old boy in the parish on Sunday afternoon, February 25.

The deceased child has been identified as Cawayne Barton, 9-year-old student of Port Maria Primary School.

The police further stated that the investigation is to determine if the driver was at fault.

Reports are that shortly after 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, Cawayne and the driver who is said to be his relative were traveling in a Toyota Rav 4 motor vehicle along the Port Maria main road towards Trinity.

On reaching a section of Stennett Street, the driver lost control of the vehicle which hit the sidewalk and overturned.

Both Cawayne and the driver suffered head and body injuries. They were both rushed to the Port Maria Hospital where Cawayne was pronounced dead, and the driver treated and admitted in stable condition.
