Montego Bay, St James(Mckoy’s News) – St James Taxi Operator Murdered: a taxi operator who hails from Flankers in St James was shot and killed and a male bystander shot and injured in downtown Montego Bay on Monday morning.
The dead man has been identified as O’Brian O’Connor, 45-year-old taxi operator. A 35-years-old man who hails from Rose Height was also shot and injured.
Reports are that shortly after 1:30 a.m. on Monday, January 8, the taxi operator was among a group of other taxi operators loading their taxi on a makeshift taxi stand in Sam Square in Montego Bay when two men approached
him.
St James Taxi Operator Murdered: the men brandished handguns and opened fire hitting O’Connor all over his body. The other victim who was standing close by was also shot and seriously injured.
The gunmen made their escape in the area, while the Barnett Street police were alerted and upon arrival, both victims were transported to the Cornwall Regional Hospital where O’Connor was pronounced dead and the other man admitted in serious condition.
The police have since stepped up security in Sam Sharpe Square because this is the third person murdered in the square at that specific location, over the past two weeks.
Two weeks ago the parish of St James recorded the last double murder of 2017 at the same spot in Sam Sharpe Square.
