Jamaica Crime News, St James: A St James Taxi operator charged with defrauding an elderly shopkeeper of cash amounting to over $1-million, was granted bail in the sum of $800,000, when he appeared before the Hanover Parish Court, on Wednesday, June 26.

The accused man, 42-year-old Garth Brown, of Sugar Mill Road in Ironshore, St James, was ordered to surrender his travel documents, and also to report to the Coral Gardens police station daily, by Senior Parish judge, Sheron Barnes

Reports are that a few weeks ago, Brown was given cash amounting to over $1-million dollars, as advanced payment on a minibus, which he allegedly had for sale.

He later returned to the shopkeeper and took an additional $60,000 allegedly to pay a wrecker driver to transport the bus.

When the deal was not forthcoming, the shopkeeper made a report to the police and Brown was taken into custody, and charged.
