Jamaica Crime News, St Catherine: The St. Catherine police are now in search of a man, who they say is being sought in connection with the death of his step-daughter at their home in Sligoville, on Friday, October 19.
The name of the man being sought is being withheld, but the name of the dead child has been given as Kwana Satchwell, 8-year-old of the same address.
Reports are that on Friday morning, the child’s mother left home for work and leave the 8-year-old, in the care of her step father.
Upon her returned about 12:00 midnight, she found her daughter lying motionless in bed, wrapped in a white sheet.
The police were summoned and upon arrival, the child was transported to hospital where she was pronounced dead.
Our news team learnt that the step-father gave a report that, earlier that afternoon he gave Kwana some dishes to wash and while doing the chore she fainted.
It is also alleged that he further stated that he took the child to the bedroom, wrapped in in a sheet and placed her to lie down, not knowing that she was dead.
Family members are now saying, they have reason to believe that the 8-year-old child was strangled and also that the step-father, has left the house since the incident.
In the meanwhile, a police source told our news team that they have learnt of the allegations, and the step-father is now being sought for questioning.
According to the police, they cannot determine if the child was actually strangled, until they have gotten an official post-mortem report.
