One of two men who posed as good Samaritans and offered to assist a man to change his punctured tyre in Ocho Rios, St Ann, on Friday, December 10, has been arrested and charged for allegedly stealing $1-million dollar in cash from the victim.
He has been identified as 41-year-old Delorie Laird, otherwise called ‘Steelie’ a farmer of Galsby Street, Greenvale, Mandeville.
Laird was arrested and charged on Saturday, February 12, with Simple Larceny.
Reports from the St Ann Bay Police are that about 2:30pm, the victim went to a Bank in Ocho Rios and withdrew one million dollars.
Immediately after leaving the bank, he got a flat Tyre, and was in the process of changing it along a section of Evelyn Street, when Laird and another man reportedly offered some assistance.
After both men left the victim noticed that the bag containing the money was missing from his car, and he immediately made a report to the police.
An investigation was launched, and Laired was arrested and charged on the weekend.
