A St Andrew man is suspected to have died by drowning, in the Rio Grande River in Portland on Sunday, July 25.
He has been identified as 24-year-old Kareem Coley, o/c “Color” of a St Andrew address, and was employed to Seprod.
According to news reports, around 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, Coley was among a group of individuals from his community that went swimming in a part of the river near Nasty Davis in Golden Vale, Portland. Whilst there he got into difficulties and unfortunately, he didn’t make it out alive.
According to sources, members of the group attempted, but failed, to resuscitate Coley. He was brought to Port Antonio Hospital and pronounced dead there.
Six people have drowned in the Parish since the year 2020. A total of three people have drowned so far this year.
The Police in Portland are investigating.
