Jamaica Crime News, St Catherine: A Spanish Town man who chopped his common-law wife to death and attempted to kill his baby mother, by stabbing her and setting the house on fire, was shot and injured by the police in Spanish Town, St Catherine on Friday, September 14.
The dead woman has been identified as 47-year-old Denise Bright of McCooks Pen in Spanish Town.
The name of the injured baby mother and the identity of the accused has been withheld pending further investigations.
Reports by the Spanish Town police are that between the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 2:20 p.m. the accused and his common-law wife got involved in an argument.
The accused man reportedly went for a machete and upon his return, he chopped the woman to death.
He then concealed the body in the yard and covered it with a sheet of zinc.
The deranged man then went to the home of his baby mother and attacked her with a knife. He then stabbed her several times and while the woman lay in a pool of blood, he set the house ablaze.
Residents in the community alerted the police and upon their arrival, the accused attacked them with a machete and was shot and wounded by the officers.
The accused man who was believed to be in an unconscious state was being transported to hospital in the police service vehicle when he jumped out and attempted to escape in bushes.
He was chased by the officers and again held. He was then taken to hospital where he was treated and admitted under police guard.
The fire at the house was put out by residents in the community, who also rushed the wounded woman to hospital where she was admitted in serious condition.
