The police have reported that an assault rifle is one of six guns that have been seized since the start of the weekend on Friday, May 17. The seizures, which included a combined 47 rounds of ammunition, occurred in various Police divisions.
The assault rifle was seized in the St. Andrew South Division, about 12:40 p.m., on Friday, May 17 during a joint Police/Military operation at Ashoka Road in Kingston 11. A premises was searched and an AK47 assault rifle with a magazine containing nineteen 7.62 mm rounds of ammunition was found in an abandoned building. No one was arrested in relation to the seizure. However, the Hunts Bay Police continue to pursue all leads.
Investigators in Hunts Bay are also probing the circumstances surrounding the seizure of a 9mm Pistol on 33 Lane, Kingston 13 about 9:30 p.m., on Friday. One man, who was arrested in connection with the seizure, remains in custody while arrangements for him to be interviewed in the presence of his attorney are finalized.
Friday, May 17 also saw firearm seizures in the Kingston Eastern and the St. Andrew North Divisions. In Kingston Eastern, about 4:15 p.m., a premises on D’Aguilar Road, Kingston 2 was searched and one black Smith and Wesson M&P 9mm Pistol fitted with a magazine containing twelve 9mm cartridges was found inside. One man was arrested in connection with the seizure, but his identity is being withheld as investigators continue their probe.
