There is a dainty lady at the helm of the world-acclaimed Half Moon Hotel in Montego Bay, and her name is Shernette Crichton.
Mrs. Crichton holds the distinction of being the first female General Manager at the hotel since it’s establishment decades ago.
Her interest in hospitality was engendered by her numerous hotel visits to hotels, whilst still a high school student, with her sister who worked in the industry.
The former Director of Resort Operations, made her way into the hospitality industry after graduating from the Westwood High School in Trelawny, when she enrolled in the Food and Beverage Management certificate programme at the Montego Community College.
She then headed to Papine in Kingston to the College of Arts Science and Technology (CAST) (now UTECH) where she attained a Diploma in Institutional and Catering Management.
During her days at CAST, she was required to complete four weeks of work experience prior to graduation. She was placed at Half Moon where she had a marvelous time and later returned to the property after graduation to participate in a one-year Trainee Manager Programme, back in 1990.
She worked at the hotel in numerous capacities over the decades, including Assistant Manager Sales; Special Projects with responsibility for Environmental Protection and Development of Standards; Director of Training and Staff Development; Hotel Manager and Interim General Manager.
A certified hospitality educator, she holds a Bachelors degree in Hospitality Management from the Florida International University and a Master’s Degree in Organizational Behaviour from the University of London.
Heartiest congratulations goes out to this gem of a lady.
