The Barnett Street police have made a breakthrough into the identity of a man who was shot and killed in downtown Montego Bay, on Wednesday night, October 7.
Two commercial sex workers (prostitutes) were also shot and seriously injured during the incident.
The accused has been identified as 21-year-old Ackeem Barrett, otherwise called ‘Chino’ of a Norwood address, also in Montego Bay.
The identities of both female sex workers who have since been admitted to hospital in serious conditions are being withheld.
Reports by the police are that, shortly after 8:00 pm, Barrett was walking along the roadway in the vicinity of Strand Street downtown Montego Bay, when he was approached by a lone gunman.
The gunman brandished a handgun and chased Barrett along the roadway, and opened fire hitting him multiple times.
Both prostitutes who were standing in the vicinity were also shot and injured as the gunman opened fire on Barrett.
The police were summoned and upon arrival, all three victims were rushed to the Cornwall Regional Hospital where Barrett was pronounced dead, and both females admitted.
