Several Persons Received Independence Awards

Jamaica News, Montego Bay: The annual Independence Uniform Parade Flag Raising Civic Ceremony was held on Monday, August 6, in Sam Sharpe Square. Ten persons were presented with a Spirit of Independence plaque by Montego Bay’s Mayor Homer Davis.

The Montego Bay Boys Club band was on hand to march along with the Rose Heights Marching Band, the police, Brownies, Fire Department and many others.

Pastor Richard Keane of the Church On The Rock did a prayer to get things off with a blessing. He was followed by mayor Homer Davis who gave an official welcome speech.

The Prime Minister’s message was read by Doctor Horace Chang while councilor Kerry Thomas read the message from the opposition leader. Custos Conrad Pitkin read the Governor General message while  Chris Ann Douglas, Miss St James Festival Queen did the national Pledge.

The awardees were Norma Webster, Joseph Smith, Frank Sondern, Robert Blake, Joy Jeannite, Carmen Ellis, Carlene Ricketts, Tannoy Dunkley, Clinton Jackson and Vernice Amos Williams.
