Salt Spring Man Dies after Reading Gun Attack

Montego Bay, Jamaica (McKoy’s News) – Salt Spring Man Dies: One of three men who hails from Salt Spring, and who were shot and injured by gunmen along the Reading main road in St James on Monday evening, June 26,  died from gunshot injuries at the Cornwall Regional Hospital.

The victim has been identified as, Ramone Sterling, 25-year-old unemployed of Melbourne in Salt Spring. Two other men ages 22 and 23-year- old of the same address who were also shot and injured by the gunmen still remains at hospital in critical condition.

The police also pointed out that the 20-year-old  man who was driving the car and a police officer who was travelling in another vehicle both received minor injuries and were both treated at hospital and released.

Reports are that,  about 3:30 pm on Monday, all four men were traveling in a Blue Toyota Axio motor car registered 0420 HD along the Reading main road towards Great River.

The men were travelling behind a Toyota Corolla motor car being driven by the police officer, who is said to be their close friend and stationed at the Hanover Division.

On reaching a section of the Reading main road, in the vicinity of Kokonuts Entertainment Complex, two men travelling on a motorcycle and three other men travelling in a silver Toyota Axio motor car pulled up beside the car in which the four men were traveling and brandished firearms.

The men opened fire on the car, hitting  Sterling and the other two passengers. This resulted in the driver losing control of the vehicle which crashed into the rear of the car being driven by the police officer.

The officer also lost control of his car and crashed into two other vehicles.

The gunmen drove away while residents and motorists in the area assisted the victims to the Cornwall Regional Hospital where they were admitted and Sterling later died.

The police were alerted and officers attached to Freeport and Hanover Police Headquarters

rushed to the scene and carried out investigations.

No motive has yet been established for this latest daylight gun attack.
