Jamaica Crime News, Kingston: The Kingston police have confirmed that the woman who was caught in possession of the newborn baby which was stolen from the Victoria Jubilee Hospital in Kingston, on Wednesday January 9, was officially charged on Monday. February 11.
The accused Peta-Gaye French a sales clerk of Harkers Hall, St Catherine, is now facing charges of Child Stealing and she is booked to appear in the St Catherine Parish Court between today Wednesday, February 13 to Thursday February 14.
The investigators recently reported that surveillance cameras on the outside of the hospital shows the image of the female, and this verified that she was on the hospital compound the very same day the child went missing.
The police have reported that following the disappearance of the child in January, they have been carrying out an intensive investigation.
On Tuesday, February 5, the lawmen got a tip-off from the authorities at the Register General Department, that a suspicious female was at the department trying to register a child.
The lawmen immediately went to the facility and questioned the female. When her answers did not add up, she was taken into custody and subsequently the baby taken to the forensics lab for DNA testing.
On Wednesday afternoon the DNA testing results came back positive, that the baby was owned by the mother whose child was stolen after she went to use the bathroom at the Victoria Jubilee Hospital on January 9.
