Jamaica Crime News, St Mary: An armed robber who was held by residents after he attempted to rob a salesman at gunpoint in Chapel Spring community, St Mary, on Wednesday, January 23, later dropped a homemade handgun and managed to escape in bushes.

Reports by the Gayle Police are that about 7:45 p.m., the victim who is a popular salesman, drove home to his house in Chapel Spring and parked his car at the rear of his house.

He alighted from the vehicle and was in the process of entering his house when he was held at gunpoint by the armed robber.

The salesman put up a struggle and called out for help. A number of residents rushed to his assistance and held the armed robber.

The robber managed to fight off the crowd and escape in bushes in the area.

Angry community members carried out a search for the gunman and stumbled upon the homemade handgun at a section of the bushes, where the armed robber made his escape.

The weapon was later handed over to the police.
