Jamaica News: A road accident which, occurred along a section of the Long Hill main road in St James on Wednesday afternoon of July 4th, resulted in a major traffic pile up which lasted over five hours and two persons been treated at the Cornwall Regional hospital in serious but stable condition.
Reports are that, shortly after 1:00 pm on Wednesday, the two occupants were travelling in a Suzuki Grand Vitara SUV from the directions of Anchovy towards Montego Bay.
On reaching a section of the Long Hill main road the driver lost control of the vehicle which capsized over a precipice. Several motorists quickly gathered on the scene and assisted the police in transporting the occupants to hospital. A wrecker was summoned on the scene to haul up the wrecked SUV, but based on the depth of the gully; they had to call in a crane. It took the operators of the crane almost three hours to haul the crashed vehicle back to the roadway.
The police were forced to block the roadway for several hours and this resulted in a massive traffic pile up which stretched for several miles in both directions.
The pile up resulted in several visitors being late for their flight at the Sangster’s International Airport in Montego Bay. Also hundreds of motorist using the Bypass to Westmoreland and St Elizabeth were left stranded and also dozens of parents and students, going to various graduations, were forced to walk part of the way.
