Jamaica News, March 2018 – Retired Lawyer Narrowly Missed Being Killed
Hanover, Jamaica (McKoy’s News) – An elderly retired lawyer who resides in the parish of Hanover narrowly missed being killed on Tuesday morning after his 11 apartment dwelling house was completely destroyed by fire of unknown origin.
John Hutchinson retired Attorney-at-law who resides in Haddington in the Hopewell area, had to be rescued from the burning inferno which totally destroyed the house and all its contents.
Reports by the Sandy Bay police are that shortly after 12:30 a.m. on Tuesday, March 20, residents at a section of the community known as Wall Pen alerted the fire department after saw fire coming from the concrete, board and zinc structured house. The residents fought their way into the house and managed to rescue the home owner who was trapped on the inside.
One unit from the Lucea Fire Department responded to the fire, however, when the firemen reached the location the house was already engulfed by flames, so they only carried out cooling down operations.
The firemen reported that they have not yet discovered the origin of the fire and damages are estimated at over $15 million dollars.
