Retired Cop, ‘Gunman’ Injured During Shootout at Wake in St Andrew

Latest Jamaica News, Kingston (McKoy’s News): There was a reported shootout at a wake at Ward Close off Whitehall Avenue in Kingston on Sunday morning, February 2, which left both a retired detective sergeant of police and an alleged gunman injured in the attack.

The ex-police officer, Detective Sergeant Garth Tapper, was in attendance at the wake located at Ward Close, off Whitehall Avenue in the St Andrew North Police Division, where gunmen entered the venue.

During a gun battle, Tapper was hit multiple times but was able to return the fire. One of the gunmen was also shot and injured.

An illegal firearm was reportedly seized on the scene.

Tapper was shot in his left shoulder, left elbow, right thigh and leg, and left thigh. He was taken to the hospital for treatment.

The condition of the alleged gunman was not known.
