The remains found buried in the backyard of a home near Clermont were identified as a 36-year-old man missing for three years, according to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.

Michael Shaver was last seen in October 2015 and reported missing in February. When deputies were searching his home in the 9800 block of Sandy Pines Road which he shared with his wife, they noticed a new concrete slab in the fire pit, Lake County Sheriff’s Lt. John Herrell said.

Deputies dug into the concrete in March and found body parts, said Herrell. Testing confirmed they were Shaver. A cause and manner of death has not yet been determined.

Shaver’s wife, Laurie Shaver, 35, stopped cooperating with deputies when they started questioning her about the concrete slab, Herrell said.

There have been no arrests in the case.

“The investigation is still very much active and ongoing,” Lake County Sheriff’s Lt. John Herrell said.
