(Alan Lewin – News Reporter): A popular Dub Poet from St James has died.
Dorsect Leslie, popularly known as “Ras Views” died in the Falmouth hospital recently, after ailing for some time. Views, Colour or Ugly as many called him, was famous for his signature song ‘I Man A Sweep Up I man Yard.’
Whenever he did this poem on a stage show it always generated laughter among the audience. During his early years as a dub poet he idolized Mutabaruka.
Finances and lack of finding a proper manager hindered his progress. In the early 90’s he was a member of the Seba division two football team, and also represented the Seba masters league football team, under the coaching of the late Edwin Alcock.
Last year he brought the house down, at the annual Coral Gardens Atrocities observation at the Pitfour Nyabinghi Centre in St James. His last major appearance was at the Marcus Garvey Celebration in Sam Sharpe Square this month. He hails from the William Street area, a place he loved very much.
